There’s something kind of boyish and sweet about a tombstone sculpture or fake pile of dynamite. Connor Crawford is the multi-talented new media artist embodiment of the teen boy in his parent’s basement building his own dungeon fort. I like his prop-like sculptures because they’re playful and theatrical and they have a sense of humour. His paintings are oddly nostalgic with an age-old fairy-tale feeling, yet impressively unique. Crawford is interested in simple images as representations for larger ideas and themes, and how these images and ideas continuously mutate and cross-pollinate. Our friend Aaron Wynia visited Crawford in his Toronto studio. See the pix below!
