Shoot the Breeze: Amanda Morgan Jansson

Amanda Morgan Jansson is a photographer working in the UK. She’s also the editor-in-chief at Dreck Magazine. Her trademark photos are DIY fashion shoots, speckled with dust, and often starring her sister Emma Elina Kiera Jones. Always shooting and traveling together, the two of them depict a dreamy, fairy-like world. They kind of remind me of that movie, Picnic at Hanging Rock.

1. Why do you take photos?
We started taking photos because the world seemed like such a boring place to live in and through our photos we can create a whole different world that we like much better.

2. Do you carry your camera with you everywhere you go?
Yes, pretty much. We can always run into something we want to take a picture of or perhaps we want to take a photo of each other wherever we are.

3. What celebrity would you like to shoot most?
None. We are not interested in celebrities. “Celebrities” are not real people but rather a created image. We want to shoot real people as they are.

4. What animal would you like to be, if not a human?
Cats for sure.

5. What is your favorite smell?
We like turpentine a lot. Fresh paint also. And lots of food smells great too!

6. Would you like to live forever?
Yes, if we could stay young forever too and if all the people and animals we loved could stay young and live forever as well.

7. What do you think is the best photo you have ever taken to date?
That’s hard to tell. Depending on our mood and the time we might have another photo we are in love with.

8. What’s your favorite pastime?
Taking pictures, writing, painting, going to places…

9. Do you like having your photo taken?
Yes, obviously. We often pose in our own photos. If we like someone’s work then we like to have our picture taken.

10. Who are your favorite photographers, currently?
There are some older ones we like a lot. But we are really bad with names. We are more interested in specific pictures.
