Street Flash #2 is the second iteration of London photographer Will Wright’s foray into zine-making and street style archiving. Beginning with his online archiving of 90s/00s street style magazines, Wright’s interest in the medium of street fashion continues to expand to increasingly ambitious projects, this time a perfect bound collection representing a cross-section of styles encountered on the streets over the past year. Wright’s exhaustive process seems to be driven by his desire to find evidence that “subculture,” in the pure sense of the word, still exists. Wright says shooting the images for this zine firmed his faith in the existence of subculture. For example, discovering people who are part of movements like Gothic Lolita, which follows specific codes and conventions that are often strictly policed by their communities and share a similar kind of insularity to archetypal subcultures of the past.
In Street Flash #2, Wright teamed up with photogarpher @meetstreetsnap, who operates out of Ishikawa in Japan. Wright says the two are both influenced by Japanese street style titles like Kerouac and Tune magazine as opposed to the more traditionally Western ‘fashion week’ street style documentation.Street Flash #2 can be found in Wright’s online shop.
