Here’s a photo diary from Arbutus Records / Cardinal PR’s Marilis Cardinal during this year’s SXSW. Featuring TOPS, Dylan III, Empress Of, and Marnie the dog ; )
TOPS
Here’s Empress Of playing the best set I saw all festival.
Here’s Jane Penny with a big fish at the back of Austin’s only steam-punk bar.
TOPS played a Burger Records party in the backyard of someone’s mom’s house. There was a wide array of soda pop and a very sexy pool.
We rented our pal Ethan’s house which was conveniently next to a Super 8 where every morning we enjoyed their free continental breakfast which included waffles shaped like Texas.
Here’s my pal Angus with a mural of my favorite Simpsons episode, the one where Homer goes on a psychedelic journey after eating a hot pepper at a chili cook-off.
It’s about 3PM here and TOPS are playing their third show of the day. Some teens just smoked me up on a large joint and I am feeling pretty good.
Sam’s BBQ where “you don’t need no teeth to eat the beef”.
Sean made it onto the wall of fame at Sam’s BBQ.
After Sam’s, we went over to Club 1808 where everyone we knew was playing that day. Upon arrival, I beelined for the darkest corner of the bar and fuelled by the BBQ breakfast and a 4-day-strong hangover, curled up in the fetal position and napped. Woke up to a mind melting set from my business mentor Dylan III.
On the Sunday after the festival, our pal Shirley and her dog Marnie came to stay with us. Here’s David with Marnie, the chillest pup in the game. You should follow her on instagram @marniethedog
