Brighton Beach is a predominately Russian neighbourhood in Brooklyn, New York. It is where a lot of ex-Soviets immigrated in the late 80’s. It’s now called Little Odessa. It is still very much Russian today. So much so, that we thought best that our model be Russian, otherwise it would be difficult to speak to some of the elder locals. I wanted Ada, the model (who isn’t a model at all), to wear all New York-based, young designers. I wanted to speak with the people we were photographing and understand a little bit about them before taking their photo. We spent the entire day there and got to know a lot of people! – June Canedo
