Watch the video for the single “Seven” off of Michele Nox‘s upcoming album Monolith below. Speaking about the process of making the video Michele says “the idea was to have a one-on-one conversation, like we were just hanging out. For me, this song is about finding self-love, and trusting the paths I’ve chosen – calling out to a higher power, that is also us. I wanted to make the message as clear as possible, which is something new for me.”
Born and raised in Montreal, Michele moved to Toronto two years ago. “As soon as I got here, I was basically alone all the time,” she says. “The music came out of that loneliness, out of being immersed in myself.”
Michele’s music resonates in the aching heart, but it is a well far deeper than simple romance. Her songs evoke the agony of love, the obsessions and self-destruction of the ego, the vain longing for meaning. Whether backed by raw guitar or awash in transcendent electronic swells, Michele’s voice is the constant.
“I used to be afraid of using my voice, so I would drown it in effects. Now instead of shielding and putting up masks, I want to be heard.”
Michele has an extensive and growing catalog of collaborative projects, including runway soundtracks for fashion designer Rad Hourani, projects with house producer Jacques Greene, and a NOWNESS feature video with creative director Melissa Matos.
Her album Monolith will be released on September 27th.
