Shoot the Breeze: Tara Dwelsdorf

Intro by Claire Milbrath

Tara Dwelsdorf is an Edmonton-born photographer currently shooting the breeze in Vancouver, BC. Keeping tabs on the Canadian music scene, Tara has photographed artists like the Courtneys, Peace, Mac DeMarco, etc. You may remember her work from the cover of Editorial Issue 4. She’s a shy but ambitious lady, committed to lugging around her massive large format camera, Luddite style. She shot my portrait when I was in high school and it’s probably the best picture ever taken of me.

1. Why do you take photos?
I always see potential photos around me, and feel the need to capture them or create them. They also help with my horrible memory.

2. Do you carry your camera with you everywhere you go?
Usually a lil’ snappy guy

3. What celebrity would you like to shoot most?
Maybe 1960’s Anna Karina

4. What animal would you like to be, if not a human?
I’m a cat lady.. so possibly one of those

5. What is your favorite smell?
Anything nice, I seem to have a keen sense of smell

6. Would you like to live forever?
That sounds terrifying

7. What do you think is the best photo you have ever taken to date?
It’s always changing

8. What’s your favorite pastime?
Swimming in the ocean

9. Do you like having your photo taken?
Only if I can hide my face
