Shoot the Breeze: Christian DeFonte

Christian DeFonte submitted his snapshots to us over the holidays. Originally from San Jose and now working in NYC, Christian’s photos document his trips back home. His work is borderline vernacular – candid family shots – namely of his baby sister, cousin and grandmother, and sights seen on the street. -CM

1. Why do you take photos?
It feels necessary. And I’m nostalgic.

2. Do you carry your camera with you everywhere you go?
Pretty much.

3. What celebrity would you like to shoot most?
I really love Ida No of Glass Candy. Someone more famous? No clue.

4. What animal would you like to be, if not a human?
I don’t know. Seems like dolphins are always having fun. Try googling “sad dolphins”

5. What is your favorite smell?
The boy I like. And french fries.

6. Would you like to live forever?
I doubt it. Traveling back in time could be cool though.

7. What do you think is the best photo you have ever taken to date?
I can’t decide. Probably one of these.

8. What’s your favorite pastime?
Either drinking/dancing or lounging/laughing (preferably with a cute spliff).

9. Do you like having your photo taken?
I love it, but I don’t usually love the results.

10. Who are your favorite photographers, currently?
Currently always loving Teller, Araki, Wessel and Shore.  These days, Fumi Ishino, Monika Mogi, and Brianna Capozzi. The list goes on.
