I’m constantly in awe of my friends and their amazing talent, work ethic, and creativity. Before I met Katya Zelentsova her work was already alluring to me. I was like, “Who is this girl making sexy knitwear?” She asked me to fit model for her a couple of times and I ended up walking her BA collection at the Central Saint Martins show. Her clothing puts me out of my element, but somehow I feel powerful and confident in her designs. Perhaps this is the future of fashion editorials now, but the concept for this zine came before everything changed, when we decided to just have fun and shoot her collection around her flat in London.

Katya was born in Volgograd, Russia and while some of her inspiration comes from her birthplace, she also culls from her present surroundings and her friends. Other influences include Andrei Tarkovsky’s film Solaris and a recent trip to Brighton Beach in East Sussex. During Christmas and summer break, I’d message Katya or check her Instagram stories to see what she’s up to. She can often be found knitting with her grandma for her upcoming collection or chilling with her cat Byron in Russia (he makes a much needed appearance on the fourth page of our zine Dream Express). Even when I’m fitting her toiles leading up to her collection, I can’t help but think of how talented—brilliant, incredible, amazing, show stopping, spectacular, never the same, totally unique, completely not ever been done before, unafraid to reference or not reference, put it in a blender, shit on it, vomit on it, eat it, give birth to it—she is. In reference, to this collection she says: “If you spend two weeks on a train, all your clothes become loungewear.” We’re absolutely ready for all loungewear to look like this.
