Jay Isaac And Mark Delong: Thoughts On The Rocks

I’m reminded here of my older brother in his awkward prepubescence; playing lego games in solitude, tumbling rocks and building model airplanes. The clashing colours and patterns of the clothes he wore. The ego, the humour, the rebelliousness and the scent of budding sexuality. Mark DeLong and Jay Isaac’s work is incredibly boyish, playful and ugly in the most desirable way. It has a youthful timelessness where I can’t place if the work was made in the 70’s or in the far future. I really admire these artists and the amount of work they produce while retaining that sense of mischievousness. I look up to them. Their show is on exhibition now until August 6, 2016 at Monte Clark Gallery, Vancouver, BC. – Darby Milbrath
