Windows to a monstrous soul, black and green with the weight of carrying hopes and dreams around in a sack of skin. The eyes are the site of mortal discomfort in these grotesquely alien illustrations penned by Lala AKA Lauren Albert, a Brooklyn-based artist and comic writer. Feathered bangs and close-set eyes knit together by furrowed brows lend these long-haired creatures a Neanderthal glam and ahistoric angst. The over all color pallette of these works suggests an intergalactic origin. Throughout her erotic sci-fi and invasion narratives, Lala’s work spins a realm of manic enlightenment and viscous physicality, where orifices and eyeballs drip with new age slime. -Whitney Mallett
